FAQ for music submissions
1. How long before we find out if we get on the air?
Answer: Generally, it may take up to 15 business days. We receive several hundred submissions a week. However, we try hard to respond within 2 business days.
2. How often will our song get radio play?
Answer: We are only going to give 100-115 bands radio play each day. When we reach the maximum amount, each song will receive 1-2 plays a day. However, most of our bands will have 2 or more songs played a day. This is to insure the best indy rock music is always on Upstream.
3. Do we get royalties if our song is chosen?
Answer: At this time, no. Right now Upstream is commercial free. However, we expect that day to come soon where the bands that we play receive a piece of the pie.
4. Can we send you a promo packet?
Answer: We prefer online submissions, but you may send your promo packet. Please include $35 (check or money order) and send it to:

5. Does this contract (the Upstream Radio Release) mean you have the rights to our music forever?
Answer: Only if you want us to. At any time, send us a signed written document via U.S. Postal Mail or fax and we will discontinue radio play of the music specified by you.
6. How do you become USA4real Artist of the Month?
Answer: We have an extremely unpolitical process, but generally we choose a band that we know will be departing us soon into the mainstream of things. You can always request interviews, album reviews, and concert reviews (if we're in the neighborhood.)
7. Can we e-mail you our music videos?
Answer: You can, but please don't. We want our editors to convert them into the proper filesize and format. Send your DVD to: (please no VHS tapes)
USA4real -
Attn: Upstream Video

Beverly Hills, CA 90211
8. In what format, bitrate and sample rate should we send our music?
Answer: We accept MP3s only (128 Kb/s, 44.1 Khz). Please do not send other formats as they are incompatible with our radio server. If you need help converting your files to MP3, shoot us an email and we'll see what we can do.
Many other radio stations use low quality MP3s to save their cost on bandwidth. Upstream Radio is commited to bring you the best music, at the best sound quality. We prefer you to send us MP3s at a bitrate of128Kb/s. Anything smaller than 128Kb/s will diminish the sound quality of your music, and we certainly don't want that.
